  • Open Gate Homeless Ministries

Open Gate Open Gate is a ministry for young adults (18–30 years old) experiencing homelessness—particularly LGBTQI young adults, who generally have a difficult time at shelters and agencies. We provide a comfortable and safe sanctuary—free from the bi¬ases and discriminations they face on the streets. “Safety” includes no violence of speech or action. Every Sunday since March 4, 2007, Open Gate’s Hawthorne Dinner serves a family-style, home-cooked meal. These dinners are intentionally secular, explicitly avoiding religious lan¬guage. Instead, they focus on the essential core of Jesus’ gospel: trust, hope, love, and reconciliation. During the dinner, participants can charge phones, and get personal hygiene packs, clothing, mentoring, and referrals to agencies providing health and mental-health care, housing, education, and other services.
