“People are people. People are meant to be loved. God loves every one of us. There aren’t any exceptions.” These words reflect the life of Rev. Meeker-Williams, senior pastor of Bering Memorial United Methodist Church from 1996 – 2006.

As the daughter of Quakers, with ancestors who were conductors on the Underground Railroad, it is no surprise that her parents adopted a bi-racial child in 1968. As a mom, with kids still at home, her son told her that he was gay. A week later Rev. Meeker-Williams met with her district superintendent and told him that she felt God calling her to be in ministry to the homosexual community. She was appointed as Bering’s senior pastor the next year. Bering’s first female pastor!

Watch and listen as Rev. Meeker-Williams shares the stories that have shaped her life and her ministry at Bering.
