Bering United Methodist Church

SCOTUS Ruling Service at Bering June 26, 2015

Bering Memorial UMC hosted an impromptu service regarding the SCOTUS ruling during the evening of June 26, 2015.

One hundred and sixty-nine people attended the service led by 19 pastors from different denominations.  Each pastor shared a unique testimony regarding his or her personal experience, the leadership role that Bering has taken in the Texas Annual Conference, the work that is yet to be done in the UMC, and the encouragement that they felt regarding this historic ruling on this historic day.

This ruling quickly followed the Texas Annual Conference meeting in early June where resolutions for inclusion were presented. Pastor Jason Wood from Living Mosaic Church, spoke movingly of Methodist minister Rev. Bruce Wood’s recent change of heart and his acceptance of a reconciling view after hearing Rev. Jim Foster’s speech (second speech in the video) regarding the resolutions for inclusion at the conference. Rev. Bruce Wood is Pastor Jason Wood’s father.

Rev. Ernie Turney said, “This was one of the best worship experiences I’ve had in a very long time!”  Rev. Marilyn Meeker, former pastor of Bering Memorial UMC, was in New Jersey when she heard the ruling and flew to Houston that day to be a part of this special service.
